A landfill situated in the woods, such as the Chalberhau landfill, takes on a new light when we acknowledge the ongoing destruction of "natural landscapes" occurring to this day. To cling to the romantic vision of nature as an uncontaminated, pristine landscape, untouched by the human hand, is to ignore the fact that human actions have instigated long term transformations. Much like the continuous migration of global flora, areas such as this landfill in the periphery of Zurich embody an ever changing narrative. Fed by the incessant flow of construction waste and excavation material the city of Zurich generates, they shape the land with their relentless development. In their wake they leave behind new terrain, soil composition and disturbed habitats. Classical conceptions of nature fall short of grasping the true character of these areas, welcome to the anthropocene.
